Benin city: Some Edo residents have commended Gov. Monday Okpebholo for constructing the 8.6-kilometre Okpagha-Amufi Road and adjoining streets, saying the projects have improved living conditions and tackled erosion.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the roads feature fresh asphalt, dual-carriage drainage systems, and pavement upgrades, connecting key communities such as Okpagha, Amufi, Iyanomo, Iguomon, Eyaen, Ighekpe, and Ohovbe. The Okpagha-Amufi Road links the Benin-Asaba Road to the Benin-Auchi Road and cuts across the Ikpoba-Okha and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas of the state. The road construction covers areas including Agbonze Street 1, Agbonze Street 2, Michael Aigbadion Street, Daddy J.1, Daddy J.2, Ewemade Street, and Boundary (4-Junction). Other streets constructed include Upper Egharevha Street and Ebor Street.
Mr. Laurence Agbonaynma, a resident, expressed his satisfaction, recalling his disappointment upon being transferred to a church in the area in 2024 due to the poor condition of Okpagha Road. Agbonaynma noted he often had to resort to using a motorcycle because of the road’s poor state, which led to incidents of falling into erosion channels. He commended Okpebholo for the ongoing development and urged residents to remain patient and supportive, promising that they would reward the governor’s efforts with their votes in future elections.
Agbonaynma described Okpebholo as a ‘talk-and-do’ governor who fulfills his promises, emphasizing support for Okpebholo and President Bola Tinubu to continue fast-tracking development in Edo. He declared their intention to vote for all the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the upcoming elections and also support Okpebholo in the 2028 Edo governorship election.
Mrs. Tina Azubuike, another resident of Okpagha, shared similar sentiments about the road project’s positive impact on the community, particularly in addressing the erosion crisis and improving living conditions. She pledged to support Tinubu and Okpebholo in their respective elections.
Mr. Dickson Nkwor of Michael Aigbadion Street in Amufi also commended the governor for the road construction, highlighting the enhancement of economic activities in the area due to the newly completed phase of the road. He assured that the residents would express their gratitude through their votes for Okpebholo’s good work.
