Post: Afenifere Chieftain Calls for Support of SDP in 2027

Lagos: A chieftain of Afenifere, the Yoruba Socio-Cultural Organisation, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, has urged Nigerians to support the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2027, emphasizing the party’s commitment to social justice, equity, and people-centred governance. Olaitan made this appeal on Friday through a statement released in Lagos, expressing concerns over the prevailing security and economic challenges in Nigeria.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Olaitan highlighted the need for policies that prioritize the welfare of citizens. He criticized the current state of insecurity, unemployment, and inflation, which have adversely affected the wellbeing of many Nigerians. Olaitan underscored the importance of protecting democratic values and strengthening the nation’s multi-party system.

Olaitan advocated for policies that bolster agriculture, support local industries, create jobs, and expand access to education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He described the SDP as a party dedicated to programs that priori
tize citizens’ welfare and democratic development. He called on Nigerians to elect leaders who would serve the interests of the populace and promote inclusive governance.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the SDP is a centre-left political party established during the transition program of former military President, retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. The party was formed alongside the National Republican Convention (NRC) under a two-party system during the Nigerian Third Republic, attracting young intellectuals, progressives, and socialists. Its manifesto promotes citizens’ welfare and social justice through policies aimed at inclusive governance and national development.
