Abuja: The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) has congratulated Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim on his election as Chairman of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Fifth Committee. The committee is crucial for overseeing the budgetary and administrative affairs of the United Nations, thereby playing a vital role in supporting global governance.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, AGNES Director of Technical Services and Nigeria Country Director, Dr. David Awolala, described the election as “significant.” Awolala remarked that Ibrahim’s selection reflects the international community’s trust in his leadership, diplomatic experience, and strategic vision in global affairs. He highlighted that the appointment underscores Nigeria’s growing relevance and influence within the multilateral system amid increasing demands for accountability and institutional efficiency.
