Post: Alan Kyerematen Advocates for Leadership Over Partisanship in Ghana’s Political Landscape

KUMASI — Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, has called for a shift in Ghana’s leadership selection, emphasizing the need for a transformational leader rather than adherence to party lines.

According to Ghana News Agency, addressing a gathering at the ‘first volunteer activation forum’ in Kumasi, he challenged the traditional political allegiance to the NPP and NDC. He argued that it was crucial for the electorate to prioritize vision and practical ideas in their leaders to advance the nation into a prosperous future.

Kyerematen’s remarks come as he prepares to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections. His campaign aims to galvanize a diverse coalition committed to the nation’s transformation, encompassing professionals, students, religious groups, and various ethnicities.

The ‘volunteer activation forum’ serves as a training ground for youth to learn strategies to engage and recruit new members for the Movement for Change, with the objective of securing victory in the upcoming elections. The event saw over four thousand young volunteers from the Ashanti region in attendance, donning yellow T-shirts with the movement’s monarch butterfly insignia, expressing their commitment to Kyerematen’s cause.

Kyerematen, citing his record as Trade Minister under President Kuffour, posited that his contributions to Ghana’s development position him favorably to become the next President. He appealed to the youth, encouraging them to place their confidence in him to guide the next generation.

Highlighting a gap in participatory governance, Kyerematen criticized the exclusion of ordinary citizens from decision-making processes and pledged an inclusive government approach should he be elected.

Furthermore, Kyerematen cast a critical look at the three-decade reign of the NPP and NDC, questioning the extent of progress made under their leadership. He implored Ghanaians to contemplate the nation’s trajectory and to consider a new political direction that transcends party affiliations.

As part of his strategy, the ‘volunteer activation forum’ is set to be replicated across all 16 regions of Ghana. The goal is to cultivate a cadre of young individuals dedicated to rethinking the nation’s future and who are eager to establish a new generational leadership.
