All Nations University to Launch West Africa’s First Emergency Medicine Technology Degree

Koforidua, Ghana – The All-Nations University in Koforidua is preparing to introduce a groundbreaking 4-year bachelor’s degree programme in Emergency Medicine Technology in the upcoming academic year. This new programme is poised to make a significant impact in the field of medical education and emergency healthcare services.

According to Ghana News Agency, Founder and President of All Nations University (ANU), the Emergency Medicine Technology programme is a medical specialty designed to train individuals in diagnosing, treating, and managing acute illnesses and injuries that require immediate medical intervention. This announcement was made during the university’s 30th graduation ceremony, where 258 undergraduates and 57 master’s students were celebrated.

Dr. Donkor highlighted that this degree programme would be the first of its kind in West Africa, aiming to fill a crucial gap in pre-hospital care, an essential component in emergency medical services. The programme is expected to address the urgent need for qualified emergency medical professionals in the region.

Emphasizing the importance of prompt medical care, Dr. Donkor stated, “The longer one waits to go to the hospital, the less likely to survive emergencies, including heart attacks and strokes.” He also commended Ghana’s healthcare system for its improvements in access to care and health outcomes. He noted that a well-trained emergency medical workforce is vital for streamlining the healthcare system by reducing overcrowding in emergency departments and ensuring smooth transitions from emergency scenes to hospitals.

Furthermore, Dr. Donkor revealed plans to start a degree programme in food technology, supporting Ghana’s Planting for Food programme. This programme will focus on the science and technology aspects of food production, processing, preservation, safety, and quality control.

In addition to these initiatives, the university’s Space Systems Technology Laboratory (SSTL) has embarked on the African Space Station Project, a revolutionary endeavor aimed at promoting space education across Africa.
