Ikaram-akoko: The Old Students’ Association of Community Comprehensive High School in Ikaram-Akoko, Ondo State, has made a significant contribution by donating a lodge valued at N40 million. This facility will accommodate National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members assigned to the community.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the inauguration ceremony of the lodge, held at the school premises, saw attendance from government officials, alumni members, and community leaders. Mr. Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority, praised the alumni for their generosity and commitment to the school and community development.
Ojo assured the community that efforts would be made to repair the deteriorated portion of the Arigidi-Ikaram road, a route he has traveled for nine years. He encouraged residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration and lauded Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for their respective contributions to national and state progress.
Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, represented by Mr. Adebayo Ajimuda, Tutor-General of Ondo North, also praised the alumni’s gesture. He emphasized the state’s ongoing efforts to bolster education through teacher recruitment, school renovations, and other initiatives.
Mr. Festus Dada, President of the Old Students Association, commended the members for their unity and dedication which made the project possible without external funding. He acknowledged the efforts of the past association president and called for continued unity to ensure further infrastructural developments.
Mrs. Omowunmi Bakare, State Coordinator of NYSC, highlighted the project’s positive impact on corps members’ welfare. Represented by Mr. Oluwafemi Awe, NYSC Inspector for the Akoko Zonal Office, Bakare called for improved stipends and welfare for corps members, emphasizing that true partnership is demonstrated through mutual investment in one another.
Former association president, Mr. Olurotimi Daudu, encouraged beneficiaries to maintain the facility and invited other Nigerians to support similar initiatives. Community Development Service coordinator, Mr. Gabriel Ogunsakin, expressed gratitude to the alumni, promising that the lodge would be well-maintained and used effectively.
