Abuja: The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, announced that 80 percent of the capital component of the 2026 AMAC budget will be allocated to rural infrastructure. Maikalangu made this announcement during the presentation of the 2026 AMAC Appropriation Bill, which totals N37.9 billion, to the AMAC Legislative Council in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Maikalangu emphasized that the past three years have seen meticulous budget implementation, with visible results. He reassured that the 2026 budget would receive equal attention following its legislative approval. Highlighting the dire need for infrastructure in rural areas, Maikalangu stated that 80 percent of available funds would continue to be allocated to these areas, ensuring they receive necessary developments. He expressed confidence that AMAC residents will witness significant improvements in 2026, as they have in previous years.
In response, the Speaker of the AMAC Legislative Council, Mr. Matthew Yare, praised the executive for its diligence and commitment in preparing the 2026 budget. He noted that the budget presentation is a strategic roadmap reflecting the vision and developmental aspirations of the people. The 2026 exercise reaffirms the commitment to democratic governance, transparency, and accountability. Yare emphasized the principle of separation of powers working in harmony for the common good of the area council.
The AMAC Legislative Council remains committed to providing effective oversight, ensuring prudent management of public resources, and enacting laws that promote good governance and sustainable development. Yare stressed the importance of the budget as a tool for consolidating previous gains and addressing emerging community challenges. The council plans to thoroughly scrutinize the proposed estimates, focusing on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, social welfare, and economic growth.
Yare assured the council’s readiness to collaborate with the Executive to ensure the timely passage of the 2026 budget, emphasizing that such cooperation is crucial for seamless implementation and avoiding service delivery delays.
