Abuja: American Tower Corporation (ATC) Nigeria has partnered with ProFuturo Foundation to revolutionize the educational landscape in Nigeria through digital innovation and technology. The collaboration is anticipated to directly impact over 5,600 children and educators across 11 schools in three states.
According to African Press Organization, this initiative is part of a broader global partnership between American Tower and ProFuturo Foundation aimed at reducing disparities in access, use, and quality of educational resources across seven countries in Africa and Latin America. ATC Nigeria, a prominent telecommunications infrastructure provider, and ProFuturo Foundation, a global educational technology initiative by the Telefónica Foundation and the la Caixa Foundation, have teamed up with the Kukah Centre to implement the ProFuturo Program in Nigeria.
The partnership will provide educational institutions with kits that include a computer, tablets, a router, a projector, and other necessary components to improve digital access and learning opportunities. Pieter Van Der Westhuizen, CEO of ATC Nigeria, expressed pride in the initiative, emphasizing its role in bringing digital tools directly into classrooms and expanding access to technology through the Digital Communities program.
Magdalena Brier, General Manager of ProFuturo Foundation, highlighted the alliance’s commitment to addressing the digital divide and educational gaps. She remarked on the significant step forward in enhancing educational opportunities for vulnerable communities and expressed gratitude for the support in transforming lives since 2016.
Initially targeting 11 schools in Kano, Kebbi, and Tarabata, the partnership aims to benefit over 5,600 children and 34 teachers, even in areas with limited connectivity. By equipping schools with these digital kits, the initiative seeks to address educational disparities, enrich learning experiences, and support interactive teaching methods with access to extensive digital educational content.
