Awka: The Commissioner of Information, Anambra State, Dr. Law Mefor, has announced plans for a comprehensive campaign to educate the citizens and residents of the state on the importance of paying taxes. This initiative aims to support the development objectives of Governor Soludo’s administration.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Dr. Mefor made this announcement during his visit to Dr. Greg Ezeilo, the Chairman/Executive Officer of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), in Awka, the state capital. The visit was intended to establish a connection with the organization and explore strategies for raising awareness about tax compliance among the people of Anambra.
Dr. Mefor emphasized that Governor Soludo has numerous projects underway across various regions of the state, which depend on the enhancement of internally generated revenue for their timely and full realization. He noted that the governor is effectively utilizing taxpayers’ money for these mega projects, which justifies the government’s fo
cus on increasing revenue.
The Commissioner highlighted the challenges faced by the state in terms of revenue generation and expressed the Ministry of Information’s commitment to collaborating with AIRS to promote the importance of tax payment. He acknowledged the support of the Anambra citizens towards the Soludo-led administration and encouraged them to continue their contributions.
Dr. Mefor expressed confidence that with proper mobilization and awareness, the citizens will be more willing to fulfill their tax obligations. He also pointed out that the achievements of Governor Soludo are not widely recognized and stressed the need for increased public awareness about the government’s accomplishments and ongoing projects.
In response, Dr. Ezeilo, the AIRS Chairman, praised the progress made in Anambra under Governor Soludo’s leadership through effective revenue generation. He expressed optimism that other states would soon look to Anambra as a model for revenue management.
