Post: APC’s Prospects in Kwara’s 2027 Elections: Insights from Prof. Olawale Sulaiman

Kwara: A former APC governorship aspirant in Kwara, Prof. Olawale Sulaiman, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will retain control of the state in the 2027 general elections, citing the party as the best option for both Kwara and Nigeria.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sulaiman shared his views during an interview, addressing the current economic challenges such as inflation and the high cost of living. Despite these hurdles, he believes that the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are crucial for sustainable growth.

Sulaiman reflected on his political journey, noting his experience as a governorship aspirant, which provided him with deeper insights into the political dynamics of Kwara. He recalled his previous campaign with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where his team secured 25,000 votes through an issue-based approach, highlighting the political awareness of the state’s electorate.

Comparing the performances of past administrations, Sulaiman emphasized that the APC’s achievements in healthcare, education, sports infrastructure, and overall development outshine those of the opposition. He asserted that the APC’s record would prove difficult for competitors to surpass during the upcoming elections.

On predicting the voting patterns for the 2027 elections, Sulaiman suggested that the Kwara North Senatorial District would likely support the APC candidate, while the Kwara Central Senatorial District might see divided support among various contenders. He identified Kwara South as the potential deciding factor, confident that the APC’s track record would secure victory.

Sulaiman urged citizens to focus on holding elected leaders accountable rather than on individual politicians. He emphasized the importance of civic engagement and responsive governance, advocating for a shift in attention from personalities to pressing public issues like public services, employment, and infrastructure.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the APC governorship primary, Sulaiman pointed out that objections should have been raised during the process rather than after the results were announced. He highlighted the necessity for transparency and legitimacy in the selection process, suggesting that clearer guidelines be established for future elections.

Sulaiman concluded by calling for a focus on competence and leadership capacity in political contests, encouraging a debate centered on who can best address the challenges facing Kwara State.
