Post: Association Holds Trauma Healing Session for Victims of Plateau Attacks

Jos: The Plateau Association in the United States of America (PSA-USA) on Sunday organised a psychosocial and trauma healing session for victims and survivors of recent Plateau attacks. The initiative aimed to provide a safe space for individuals affected by the violence to express their feelings and begin the healing process.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, gunmen attacked the Angwan Rukuba Community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau on March 29, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several individuals. Dr. Barth Shepkong, the President of PSA-USA, stated that the event was organised in collaboration with the Saphira Global Centre for Social Development. The goal was to address the often-neglected need for psychosocial support for victims of such attacks, helping them to cope emotionally and psychologically.

Dr. Shepkong emphasized the importance of providing a platform for victims, particularly women and children, to share their experiences and receive the necessary support to move forward. He highlighted the neglected aspect of emotional and psychological support during crises and stressed the need for such initiatives.

Furthermore, Dr. Shepkong condemned the increasing violence in Plateau and urged the government and security agencies to address the security challenges. He called on residents to promote peace and tolerance within the community.

Mrs. Yil Fomwul-Gonsum, Executive Director of Saphira Global Centre for Social Development, noted that 66 survivors, including those who lost loved ones, benefited from the session. She mentioned that her organisation plans to arrange further interventions to support the victims in the future.
