Benin: The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced that it has attained full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for all its academic programmes, marking a first in several years.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this significant milestone was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, in a statement released to the media. The accreditation was the result of a comprehensive exercise conducted by the NUC in October and November 2025, covering the university’s faculties, schools, and centres. The outcomes were communicated in a letter dated April 7, to the Vice-Chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor Mr. Edoba Omoregie responded to the accomplishment by attributing it to sustained efforts and the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. He stated, “This feat reflects the dedication of our management and staff to upholding high educational standards and promoting academic distinction.”
Omoregie also praised the efforts of the university’s Senate, faculties, departments, and committees for their roles in meeting the accreditation requirements. He reiterated his administration’s focus on strengthening both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, aligning with his strategic five-point agenda.
The full accreditation status, valid for five years until 2030, places UNIBEN among the institutions with strong adherence to national academic standards.
