Abuja: The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering collaboration and promoting governance in Nigeria. The initiative seeks to enhance transparency, curb corruption, and minimize wastage in government procurement processes.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, Director-General of BPP, emphasized that this partnership is part of a broader effort to combat corruption, as directed by Bola Tinubu. The MoU is designed to support the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring that government funds are utilized judiciously across all levels of government. The collaboration is also expected to keep government spending within constitutional limits and adhere to existing regulations.
Dr Adedokun outlined several initiatives introduced by the bureau to promote transparency and accountability. These include the digitization of procurement processes, community-based procurement, the Nigeria First policy, and affirmative procurement for women, youths, SMEs, and persons with disabilities. Through these reforms, the bureau has reportedly saved nearly one trillion Naira for the nation within a year.
Mr Victor Muruako, Chairman of the FRC, praised Adedokun’s leadership, highlighting the MoU as a strategic move towards strengthening fiscal discipline in Nigeria. Muruako stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in public procurement, which he believes will reduce corruption. Additionally, he advocated for a robust mechanism to further strengthen procurement processes within the country’s fiscal framework.
