Abuja: The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in public procurement. The agreement is aimed at strengthening public financial management and ensuring value for money in government spending.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General of BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, described the collaboration as a milestone in Nigeria’s procurement reform efforts. He emphasized that public procurement is integral to professionalism and brings various professional bodies into an ecosystem that benefits Nigeria. Dr. Adedokun further explained that the MoU would enable the bureau to report errant accountants to ICAN for disciplinary action, ensuring accountability for professionals in their duties.
In his remarks, the President of ICAN, Haruna Yahaya, expressed the institute’s commitment to supporting the bureau in achieving its mandate. Yahaya highlighted four key focus areas of the partnership: value for money, strict discipline, national savings, and capacity development, emphasizing that the reward for hard work is more work. He conveyed confidence that the collaboration would yield significant benefits for the country.
