Abuja: The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS). This move aims to promote fairness and transparency within the public procurement system.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the partnership aims to ensure adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria’s procurement processes. A statement by Zira Nagga, Head, Press and Public Relations at BPP, highlighted that the collaboration is focused on enhancing judicial understanding of procurement laws and processes, driving progress, and creating new laws to support transparency and accountability.
Nagga outlined several key initiatives under the MoU, including capacity-building programs, annual lectures, seminars, and workshops specifically tailored for judges and stakeholders. The BPP-NIALS partnership is expected to improve procurement outcomes, enhance accountability, and strengthen public trust in government procurement processes.
Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, BPP’s Director-General, emphasized that the collaboration between the two organizations is a crucial step towards ensuring justice and fairness in procurement processes. He noted, “By empowering the judiciary, we can prevent corruption and ensure value for money in public procurement.”
Further, Prof. Abdulqadir Abikan, Director-General of NIALS, expressed gratitude to Adedokun for the bureau’s reforms and his commitment to overhauling Nigeria’s procurement system. Abikan acknowledged Nigeria’s potential, stating that concrete efforts are necessary to empower stakeholders within the procurement ecosystem. This empowerment will enable them to understand procurement processes and relevant laws, thereby reducing infringements.
