Lagos: The Lagos State Government has extended the Sanwo-Olu Officers Care initiative to 1,000 personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation and Logistics, Mr. Hassan Adekoya, who initiated the programme, provided this information during a free eye screening and distribution of free eyeglasses to the personnel.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adekoya emphasized that extending the care to NDLEA is in recognition of the agency’s strategic collaboration with the Lagos State Government during the state’s recently-concluded Drivers’ Care Programme. He highlighted that up to 10,000 professional drivers across the state benefitted from free eye screening and drug sensitisation.
Adekoya stated that the collaboration is crucial as Lagos state will not tolerate individuals on social contracts driving under the influence of alcohol. He mentioned that the governor approved this sensitisation and fitness programme for NDLEA because the state plans to embark on enforcement soon. He warned transporters to ensure their drivers are not on any substances while driving, as offenders will face consequences.
The Commander of Lagos State Strategic Command, NDLEA, Mr. Abubakar Wali, expressed his delight at the gesture. He noted that NDLEA had collaborated with the state government in drug testing for drivers and appreciated the governor’s efforts in this regard. Wali acknowledged that health issues could impact productivity and praised Lagos State Government as a pacesetter, encouraging others to follow suit.
Mrs. Rita Ajoko, a beneficiary of the initiative and Area Commander of NDLEA Seme Special Area Command, shared her positive experience. She received a new pair of eyeglasses, which improved her work efficiency. She expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, and others who ensured the NDLEA personnel benefitted from the initiative.
