Lagos: Maverick showbiz maestro, Charles Oputa, popularly known as CharlyBoy, has continued to tease his fans and followers across Nigeria and beyond with the dropping of extracts of his historic memoir ‘999’. The all-time social activist took to social media on Friday to share a teaser clip, reminding his teeming supporters that Lagos was set for the unveiling of the book.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, following the release of the teaser, CharlyBoy told the agency that the public presentation of the memoir, featuring a foreword by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, would be held on July 31 in Lagos. The ‘Areafada’ has described the highly anticipated book as a reflection on his emotional truths, convictions, and personal growth, sharing the lessons he learned from those experiences.
CharlyBoy emphasized that the masterpiece promises to strip away the ‘CharlyBoy myth’ to reveal his raw, unfiltered journey through rebellion, courage, and personal growth. He stated, “This book is not a biography. It’s a battleground. The Ugly, the Bad, and the very good. It’s a collection of live experiences that would make even the boldest screenwriters cringe.”
He further added that he dared to be different when it wasn’t safe, refused to be defined by his shadow, and created his own thunder which is unforgettable, loud, and defiant. “For over 40 years, I used the CharlyBoy brand to challenge Nigeria’s hypocrisy. To provoke, awaken, and give voice to the silenced. Was he controversial? Yes. Rebellious? Certainly. But also relentlessly real,” he said.
