Abuja: China and Nigeria marked the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with an exchange of congratulatory messages, reflecting on the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations. Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the consistent support both countries have offered each other despite shifts in the international landscape.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wang emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between China and Nigeria, which has been resilient across distances and firmly anchored among their peoples. He pointed out that since the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024, the political mutual trust has deepened, resulting in tangible outcomes across multiple sectors and closer coordination on international and regional affairs.
Wang further expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria to enhance exchanges between their foreign ministries and explore the China-Nigeria Intergovernmental Committee mechanism. He underscored the importance of implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state and advancing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to elevate the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
In his message, Nigerian counterpart Yusuf Tuggar acknowledged the friendly and mutually beneficial relationship that has been maintained since the inception of diplomatic ties. Tuggar lauded China as an important strategic partner and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to expanding bilateral exchanges and exploring new areas of cooperation.
Tuggar noted that this approach is in line with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and reflects the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership, aiming for mutually beneficial outcomes.
