According to News Agency of Nigeria, the relationship between China and Nigeria has seen several pivotal developments, from the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2005 to its elevation to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024. China has consistently supported Nigeria’s national unity and stability while Nigeria has adhered to the One-China principle, offering steadfast support on issues of core interest to China. Both nations have collaborated on regional and global platforms, championing the interests of developing countries and advocating for the Global South.
The two countries have strengthened their development strategies, resulting in fruitful cooperation in trade, investment, and infrastructure. Chinese enterprises have played a vital role in Nigeria’s economic growth, with projects like the China-Nigeria Friendship Hospital, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the Zungeru Hydropower Station. In 2025, bilateral trade reached $28 billion, a 28 percent increase from the previous year, while China’s direct investment in Nigeria rose by 103 percent to $690 million.
