Lagos: The College of Medicine (CMUL), University of Lagos (UNILAG), has inducted 28 medical laboratory scientists from the 2024/2025 graduating set.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the induction ceremony saw seven graduates from the Medical Microbiology and Parasitology Unit achieving distinction, while three graduated with a pass. The Chemical Pathology Unit had three graduates with distinction and six with a pass. Additionally, one graduate from the Haematology and Blood Group Serology Unit received a distinction, with two others passing. The Histopathology Unit produced one graduate with distinction and three graduates with a pass.
Speaking at the induction ceremony titled ‘9th Medical Laboratory Science Induction and Awards’, Mr. Felix Ofungwu, CEO of ISN Products Nigeria Ltd., emphasized the theme ‘Boosting Local Content Diagnostics through Robust and Sustainable Creativity’ as a rallying call for the new professionals. Ofungwu, represented by Mrs. Nkem Amah, noted the unique responsibilities the inductees are assuming in a critical period for healthcare. He urged them to transcend routine testing, foster innovation, and uphold a commitment to lifelong learning and professional ethics.
Prof. Ademola Oremosu, Provost of CMUL, encouraged the inductees to be purpose-driven and passionate in their careers. Represented by Deputy Provost Prof. Daniel Odebiyi, Oremosu stressed the importance of setting achievable goals and leveraging one’s strengths to ensure success. He urged the new professionals to make significant impacts in their chosen fields.
Dr. Donald Ofili, Acting Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), formally inducted the graduates, advising them to maintain professional excellence and integrity. He emphasized the importance of transparency and being ambassadors for their profession.
Prof. Abidemi Tella, Dean of the Faculty of Health Professions, reminded the inductees of their oath to practice with honesty, accuracy, and respect for human dignity while maintaining confidentiality and professional secrecy.
