Abuja: The Lagos State Government has initiated a comprehensive monitoring exercise in public schools to ensure the smooth start of the 2026/2027 academic session. The exercise is led by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, who is overseeing the assessment of school readiness and adherence to resumption guidelines.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the monitoring team, spearheaded by Alli-Balogun, visited Keke Senior High School in Agege. During the visit, the commissioner inspected the school premises and engaged with both school administrators and teaching staff. He emphasized the critical aspects of punctuality, discipline, effective teaching and learning, and maintaining a safe and conducive environment for students.
Alli-Balogun urged students to stay focused, read ahead, actively participate in classroom activities, and build solid academic foundations. He advised, “It is important for you to remain focused, read ahead, engage teachers through questions, participate positively, build strong foundations, and prepare yourselves for better futures.”
The commissioner also called on teachers to uphold their commitment to providing quality education. To reinforce this, he conducted a roll call to evaluate teacher attendance, compliance, and discipline.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, participated in the monitoring at other schools, including Technical and Vocational School in Agidingbi and Babs Fafunwa Grammar School in Ojodu. She praised the dedication of teachers and administrators, urging them to maintain professionalism and discipline while emphasizing their role in shaping the future of Lagos’s children through quality education. Dokunmu-Adegbite stated, “Keep learning, develop your skills and always give your best toward achieving success.”
Additionally, she urged parents to actively engage in their children’s education, highlighting that parental involvement is crucial for their development.
Meanwhile, all officers on Grade Level 15 and above within the ministry were deployed across various schools to monitor the readiness, attendance, and commencement of academic activities.
