Abuja: The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has officially launched the tactical phase of Exercise Shinning Star, aimed at advancing the training of soldiers from the 90 Regular Recruits Intake. This phase of the exercise was inaugurated by Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, the Commander of the Guards Brigade, at the General O.A. Azazi Parade Ground in Gwagwalada, located within the Federal Capital Territory.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement was made in a statement by Lieutenant Odunola Olawuyi, who serves as the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters of the Guards Brigade. During his address, Brigadier General Onasanya emphasized the importance of translating the recruits’ seven weeks of training into disciplined and effective execution in the field. The exercise is meant to consolidate the recruits’ military skills through realistic field training, enhancing their readiness for operational tasks.
Brigadier General Onasanya highlighted that the exercise aims to improve combat effectiveness, tactical proficiency, and battlefield coordination, especially in joint and multi-agency settings. He underscored the necessity of enhanced cooperation, intelligence sharing, and seamless coordination among participating security agencies. The Commander noted that contemporary security challenges require collective efforts from security agencies and the development of interoperability to address emerging threats effectively.
He called on the recruits to remain committed, disciplined, and mentally alert throughout the exercise, prioritizing safety and professionalism. The Commander also encouraged them to show initiative, aggressiveness, and precision while strictly adhering to established operational standards. He described the exercise as a crucial opportunity to build trust and mutual understanding among the participating security agencies.
Brigadier General Onasanya expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the continuous support and provision of resources necessary for training and operational activities. He also commended the personnel of participating security agencies for their dedication to strengthening security and fostering a safer environment.
The exercise, hosted by Lieutenant Colonel Dimeji Ajongbo, the Commanding Officer of the 176 Guards Battalion, involves personnel from the Guards Brigade and other security agencies. The commencement of the tactical phase marks the beginning of the recruits’ field training after completing their initial seven-week military training program.
