Osogbo: The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, has apprehended three individuals in relation to the alleged theft and sale of electrical cables in Agbona Village, within the Iwo Local Government Area. Mr. Toma Enya, the state’s NSCDC Commandant, made this announcement while presenting the suspects at the command’s headquarters on Monday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the suspects, identified as Taliatu Olunlade, 60; Wasiu Olunlade, 25; and Ganiyu Ayomide, 22, were detained on September 4 following investigations into the missing electrical cables that had been stored in the community. Mr. Enya revealed that the cables were initially removed in November 2025 as part of a road construction initiative in Agbona Village. This removal was executed under an arrangement between the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and local community leaders.
The cables had been securely packaged and stored near the residence of one of the suspects, Taliatu Olunlade. However, over the months, there were reports of the cables gradually disappearing from their storage location. A thorough investigation by the NSCDC led to the arrest of the three suspects. It was found that the cables were allegedly taken in portions and sold to a main suspect, identified only as Aminu, a metal scrap dealer who is still at large.
The suspects reportedly confessed to selling the stolen electrical cables to Aminu for N150,000. The NSCDC Commandant confirmed that ongoing investigations are being conducted to locate and capture Aminu, ensuring he faces justice. Mr. Enya stressed that once the investigations conclude, the suspects will be formally charged in court in accordance with the law.
He issued a stern warning to those involved in the vandalism, theft, or unlawful trading of critical national assets and infrastructure, urging them to cease such activities. The NSCDC remains committed to taking action against any individuals found sabotaging government infrastructure.
Mr. Enya also called upon the citizens of Osun to support the NSCDC by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities, particularly those concerning the theft, vandalism, or illegal sale of electrical cables and other vital national assets.
