Lagos: Mr. Dayo Alebiosu, Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, has emphasized that the state’s waterfront agenda is propelled by law, vision, and effective planning rather than political motivations or personal affiliations.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Alebiosu addressed journalists regarding the development, regulation, and planning of Lagos State’s waterfronts. He asserted that the government’s decisions in the sector are guided by competence and intent, not by sentiments or political agendas. “Waterfront is a technical space. Our focus is on law, planning, and development. It is not about politics or where anyone comes from,” he stated, warning against the politicization of professional appointments and policy decisions.
Alebiosu, who previously served as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, highlighted the opportunities available throughout Lagos State, advocating for a visionary approach over a suspicious one. He cited Ilashe as an example of an area that has transformed through deliberate planning and investment. Stressing the importance of long-term impact, he remarked, “The mind is the most fertile ground in the world; whatever you drop there will grow.”
The commissioner further stressed the necessity of distinguishing humanitarian interventions from political interests. He expressed a preference for discreet humanitarian efforts over public displays, questioning the rationale behind publicizing private requests for assistance. He mentioned that the state now employs an evidence-based method for providing aid, which involves collective fundraising, direct engagement, and verifying the genuineness of needs.
Alebiosu also called for constructive criticisms while discouraging deliberate provocation and destructive criticisms, underscoring the importance of a collaborative approach in advancing the waterfront development agenda.
