Abuja: Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan has won a bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, ending her reign as Commonwealth champion.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Amusan, who previously claimed gold medals at the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, was aiming to become the first woman to win three consecutive Commonwealth titles in the event. The 29-year-old crossed the finish line in 12.60 seconds to secure third place in the final.
The gold medal was claimed by Devynne Charlton from The Bahamas with a time of 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds took the silver medal, clocking in at 12.41 seconds. Earlier in the day, Amusan had raised hopes of retaining her title with a dominant performance in the heats, winning her race in a wind-assisted 12.19 seconds. Although the mark was not eligible for record purposes due to excessive wind assistance, it was the fastest time ever recorded at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions

Amusan, however, could not replicate that performance in the final as Charlton and Simmonds finished ahead of her. Despite falling short of a historic third straight Commonwealth title, the Nigerian extended her remarkable record at the Games by achieving a third consecutive podium finish in the women’s 100m hurdles.
