Lagos: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission experts have embarked on a significant training exercise aimed at enhancing coordination in the acceleration of digital trade reforms. The training, which took place in Lagos, Nigeria, marks a collaborative effort between ECOWAS and the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to utilize innovative tools for improved e-commerce reform implementation.
According to African Press Organization, the training was centered around the e-trade reform tracker (eTRT), a digital tool designed to assist implementing agencies in monitoring progress, coordinating initiatives, and ensuring accountability in the execution of e-commerce reforms. This initiative is expected to streamline internal and inter-departmental communication and provide reliable data for monitoring and evaluation.
During the opening ceremony of the training, Mr. Kolawole Sofola, Director of Trade at ECOWAS Commission, spoke on behalf of Madame Massandjé TOURE-LITSE, ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture. He emphasized the practical nature of the session, highlighting the Tracker’s role in facilitating the operationalization of the Regional E-Commerce Committee. The Committee is anticipated to serve as a comprehensive governance platform for the region’s e-commerce agenda.
