Ado-ekiti: The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti, Gov. Biodun Oyebanji, has emerged winner with 319,224 votes. Oyebanji defeated his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Wole Oluyede, who scored 40,543 votes.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Adenike Oladiji, INEC’s Chief Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the result on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti. She stated that Oyebanji satisfied all the requirements in the election and was declared elected.
Mrs. Oladiji provided a breakdown of the election, noting that there were 988,251 registered voters and 384,949 accredited voters across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state. The total number of votes cast was 382,109, with 6,332 votes rejected.
Speaking with journalists after the announcement, Sen. Cyril Fasuyi, the APC Collation Agent, urged other contenders to join the governor in building a prosperous state. He emphasized that in every contest, there would only be one winner and called for a spirit of sportsmanship among all participants.
The breakdown of the election results from various local government areas showed APC’s dominance, with significant margins over other parties. Some notable results included APC’s 38,026 votes in Ado LG compared to PDP’s 3,817, and APC’s 29,278 votes in Irepodun/Ifelodun LG against PDP’s 2,119.
The election results from the 16 local government areas underscore Oyebanji’s significant lead over his opponents, demonstrating the strong support for APC in the region.
