Kano: The Emir of Kano in North West Nigeria, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has visited the freed detainees currently receiving treatment at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano. Emir Sanusi, accompanied by Kano state Commissioners of Health, Abubakar Labaran, and Education, Haruna Doguwa, among others, visited wards and interacted with the patients on their beds.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Emir Sanusi commended President Bola Tinubu for assisting the detainees and acknowledged the efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He expressed gratitude to individuals who contributed to freeing the minors and emphasized the importance of security agencies targeting actual perpetrators during disturbances to prevent punishing innocent citizens. Emir Sanusi revealed that many detainees were students merely picked up from the streets rather than engaging in violent acts.
Emir Sanusi also expressed his condolences to the families of the patients and urged authorities to focus on apprehending adults responsible for t
he riots. He highlighted that while the riot occurred in Kano and identifiable individuals continue to walk freely, innocent children were detained. The Emir called for justice, urging the identification and trial of the real culprits instead of innocent minors.
The Emir encouraged people to pray for leadership, hoping for continued peace and prosperity in the region. It is noteworthy that Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shetima had previously handed over the minors to Governor Yusuf after their discharge by the Federal High Court in Abuja, following the Nigerian Government’s withdrawal of charges against them.
