Abuja: The Federal Government has announced a nationwide prohibition on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private secondary schools. This measure aims to curb the rising incidence of examination malpractice.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this directive was contained in a statement by Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education. The directive comes as a response to growing concerns over the increasing cases of examination malpractice, including the use of special centers during external examinations. These centers, as noted by Boriowo, compromise the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s education system.
The policy is set to take effect from the 2026/27 academic calendar, with admissions and transfers now restricted strictly to SS1 and SS2. “Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance,” Mrs. Boriowo stated. This measure is designed to discourage the last-minute movement of students seeking examination-related advantages and to ensure proper academic monitoring, alongside promoting continuity in teaching and learning.
School proprietors, principals, and administrators nationwide have been directed to fully comply with the new policy. Any violation of this directive will incur appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing education regulations and guidelines, she added.
