Abuja: The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has announced plans to establish a fully accredited Digital Academy to equip Nigerians of all ages with critical digital skills. The Chief Executive Officer of PPDC, Mrs. Lucy Abagi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), highlighting that the center would boost efficiency and global competitiveness.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the academy will welcome participants ranging from five years old to adults of any age. Abagi emphasized the indispensability of digital skills in Nigeria’s expanding economy, describing them as essential tools for navigating, creating, and managing information in today’s technology-driven world.
PPDC is primarily technology-driven, with approximately 80 percent of its operations incorporating a technology component. Abagi expressed optimism that the global market will soon turn to Nigeria in search of skilled professionals, citing the high demand for tech skills worldwide.
The rapid growth of internet usage, even at the community level, underscores the urgency of long-term investments in digital capacity building. Abagi explained that as a tech-driven organization, PPDC must ensure that it has the skills needed to sustain and manage its products.
Building on its ongoing safer internet and online capacity-building initiatives, PPDC is now expanding its vision with the creation of the PPDC Digital Academy. The academy will offer training in coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and more to individuals from age five and beyond.
About 20 young Nigerians have already benefited from the academy during its pilot phase. PPDC plans to launch another pilot in 2026 while finalizing accreditation to enable the center to certify its trainees. The goal is to make it a fully accredited academy, with structures in place to certify beneficiaries and begin with at least two courses in the first phase.
The academy aims not only to strengthen PPDC’s work but also to provide Nigerians with opportunities to compete effectively in the global digital space. Mrs. Abagi reiterated the need for an academy that trains Nigerians and advocates, empowering them with the digital skills required to thrive in today’s world.
