Abuja: Family Homes Funds Ltd. (FHFL) has announced an ambitious plan to deliver 10,000 social housing units by the year 2030. This initiative is part of a broader program designed to empower 100,000 women and train 100,000 artisans nationwide.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the ‘Social Housing Implementation Plan’ document highlights FHFL’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing through innovative financing and strategic partnerships. FHFL, a Nigerian social housing finance institution, aims to finance affordable housing projects by collaborating with developers, governments, and financial institutions, thereby increasing housing supply and reducing the housing deficit.
The Social Housing Programme is expected to be completed by 2030 and aims to build sustainable communities, thereby improving livelihoods. FHFL plans to incorporate innovative financing, sustainable construction methods, and strategic partnerships to enhance access to affordable housing.
The housing projects will be executed in phases across key regions based on identified housing needs. The programme will leverage public-private partnerships to mobilize funding, facilitate land access, and strengthen institutional support for housing delivery. Affordable housing finance options will be provided to enhance homeownership among low- and middle-income households.
Alternative Building Technology and other low-carbon materials will be promoted to ensure sustainability. The housing projects will incorporate passive cooling systems, solar energy, and natural lighting to improve energy efficiency. Locally sourced building materials will be prioritized to reduce environmental impact and support domestic industries.
The initiative also includes empowering 100,000 disadvantaged women through opportunities created under the housing programme. Additionally, 100,000 artisans will be trained with construction skills to strengthen housing delivery and expand employment opportunities.
Host communities will participate in project planning and implementation to encourage ownership and sustainability. Governance structures will be strengthened, and livelihood opportunities will be integrated into housing developments to align with national housing policies and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Grants, subsidies, and partnerships with development finance institutions will be explored to improve affordability and expand housing delivery. FHFL expressed confidence that the initiative would promote economic empowerment, strengthen local capacity, and improve living conditions in participating communities.
NAN reports that FHFL’s mission is to provide affordable homes and create jobs by leveraging innovative financing, technology, strategic partnerships, and a skilled workforce to enhance housing access across Nigeria. The institution also promotes economic growth by supporting infrastructure development, creating employment opportunities, and enabling low- and middle-income Nigerians to access decent, affordable homes.
