Abuja: Mr Peter Eze, Chairman of the Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), has pledged strict enforcement of the federal character principle. Eze made the pledge at the inauguration of the committee held at the FCC headquarters.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Eze, in a statement personally signed by him after the inauguration, mentioned that the committee was among the 25 operational committees recently approved during the commission’s weekly plenary. The plenary was presided over by the Executive Chairman of the commission, Mrs Ayo Omidiran.
Eze emphasized that the committee would ensure compliance with the laws establishing the commission in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies under the Federal Ministries of Works, Transport, and Aviation. He highlighted that the Federal Character principle is a constitutional provision aimed at preventing the dominance of public institutions by any single region or group.
Additionally, Eze quoted President Bola Tinubu, who described the commission as the ‘conscience of the nation.’ He noted that members drawn from the six geopolitical zones were committed to promoting fairness, equity, and national unity in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Eze reiterated that the laws establishing the commission are clear, and their duty is to ensure full implementation and compliance. He stressed that every Nigerian deserves equal opportunity in public service, regardless of tribe, gender, or region.
He concluded by stating that effective enforcement of the commission’s mandate would strengthen unity and foster a stronger sense of belonging among citizens.
