Abuja: The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate faster consumer complaint resolution and bolster enforcement measures in the marketplace. The agreement aims to streamline the process for handling consumer grievances and eliminate the confusion faced by consumers in deciding which agency to approach.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Executive Vice-Chairman of FCCPC, Mr. Tunji Bello, emphasized that the MoU would enable complaints to be received and processed through well-defined channels, with a designated liaison team assisting both agencies in coordinating their responses. This collaboration is expected to provide timely access to data necessary for investigations, policy development, and enforcement, thereby enhancing institutional capacity through shared training and technical collaboration.
Bello further highlighted that the MoU wou
ld make regulatory enforcement more predictable and consistent for businesses, stressing that effective regulation builds consumer confidence and improves market efficiency. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, underscored the importance of this MoU for the country’s market, noting that it is a renewal of a previous agreement, now with clearer terms. Adeyeye praised the FCCPC’s leadership in consumer protection and assured the public of the agencies’ commitment to safeguarding product quality and consumer rights.
