Abuja: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT administration will commemorate its 50th anniversary alongside the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu. Wike made this announcement in Abuja, during a meeting with members of the FCT Administration staff, as part of the activities marking the territory’s golden jubilee.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike mentioned that a committee would be established soon to plan the celebrations for both the FCT golden jubilee and Tinubu’s third anniversary. He expressed gratitude that the FCT reached its 50-year milestone during his tenure as minister and revealed that a compendium to mark the golden jubilee would be launched in three months.
Wike attributed the progress and developments in the FCT over the past two and a half years to President Tinubu’s support. He noted that infrastructural development in the FCT had been sluggish until Tinubu removed the administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), allowing access to funding for crucial projects.
Wike highlighted that this move enabled significant infrastructural advancements, which would not have been possible otherwise. He emphasized the importance of appreciating Tinubu’s role in laying the foundation for these developments.
Beyond infrastructure, Wike also acknowledged the improvements in the career progression of FCT Administration workers under Tinubu’s leadership. He stated that employees now have the opportunity to advance to positions such as Permanent Secretaries or Head of the FCT Civil Service.
Richard Dauda, the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), noted the remarkable achievements in infrastructural development over the past two and a half years. He stated that several projects inherited from previous administrations have been completed and inaugurated, with a few remaining projects nearing completion. Dauda attributed this success to the commitment and proactive leadership of the current administration under Wike.
Dauda further mentioned that Wike had inaugurated nine projects during Tinubu’s first anniversary in 2024 and 17 projects in 2025 during the second anniversary. He expressed confidence that the number of projects planned for inauguration to mark Tinubu’s third anniversary would likely reach 50 since Wike assumed office as FCT Minister in August 2023.
