Enugu: The Federal Government has successfully trained 900 youths in Enugu on critical digital skills, focusing on emerging areas such as cybersecurity, data science, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to empower the youth through digital skill development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Kashifu Abdullahi, revealed this during an address at the ongoing Enugu Tech Festival (ETF) 2026. The festival, themed ‘Coal to Code: Energy in New Form,’ is being held from February 24 to February 27.
Abdullahi emphasized that the strategic skill training aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at nurturing talent and providing digital skills for youth empowerment. Represented by Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Director of Stakeholder Management and Partnership, Abdullahi noted that 50 out of the 900 trainees had shown exceptional dedication, resilience, and excellence. These top performers will receive digital tools as instruments of transformation, symbolizing opportunity, empowerment, and responsibility to innovate and transform communities.
Abdullahi also highlighted NITDA’s commitment to creating pathways for young Nigerians to develop globally competitive solutions. The government supports this through initiatives like the Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition and GITEX Nigeria, which offer platforms for innovators to showcase their ideas to global investors, attract funding, and expand beyond national borders. He encouraged the youths to understand the significance of their training, as it shapes the future.
In a goodwill message, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, urged the youths to seize opportunities provided by digital trainings, conferences, and tech-innovation events. He praised Gov. Peter Mbah’s vision of advancing Enugu State’s future through technology and Artificial Intelligence-driven infrastructure in various sectors, including security, education, administration, judiciary, and health. Maida encouraged continued support for Gov. Mbah’s foresight in promoting tech-innovation and digitalisation among the youth.
