Abuja: The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to eliminating tuberculosis (TB) from Nigeria by 2030. As the Global and National Stop TB Champion, Tinubu emphasized this commitment during her message to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day 2026, emphasizing the theme: ‘Yes! We Can End Tuberculosis’.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tinubu highlighted the sustained political will demonstrated by the current administration under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. She noted that with the support from both national and global partners, the eradication of TB in Nigeria is achievable. The First Lady stressed the importance of strong national leadership and collective efforts involving communities, survivors, health workers, and development partners to accelerate progress toward ending the TB epidemic.
Senator Tinubu expressed that tuberculosis remains a preventable and treatable disease, yet it continues to impact thousands of families across Nigeria. Despite the significant reduction in new cases, she acknowledged that more work is needed. She called for intensified efforts to enhance domestic financing, raise awareness, expand early detection, improve access to quality treatment, and combat the stigma that deters many individuals from seeking necessary care.
