Abuja: The Oramali Foundation, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has underscored the importance of providing mentorship, emotional support, and moral guidance to the boy-child as a means to foster a balanced and responsible society. This was highlighted during the celebration of the International Day of the Boy-Child, held at the Federal Government Boys College (FGBC), Wuye, Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Executive Director of the Oramali Foundation, Chidima Oramali, emphasized the need for boys to be obedient to parents and teachers and to uphold good values. She announced that the foundation is committed to continuing its initiative to support the growth of the boy-child and plans to return in 2027 with an expanded agenda.
Amb. Tina Kenechukwu, President of Women Inspire Africa, pointed out that the neglect of the boy-child has contributed to various social challenges. She noted that while considerable focus has been placed on the girl-child, boys equally require guidance, mentorship, and emotional intelligence training to become well-adjusted members of society.
The event’s convener, Oby Ezeilo, highlighted the necessity of the initiative, citing a lack of attention to the challenges faced by the boy-child. She organized the program at her school to offer students the benefits of various activities, such as a football match, discussions on overcoming challenges, a dance competition, and the distribution of gifts.
Optometrist David Nwandu addressed the need for deliberate mentoring of boys, suggesting that many of the challenges faced by men in adulthood stem from a lack of guidance during their formative years. He encouraged students to focus on their education, build self-confidence, and remain determined in the face of setbacks.
Principal of FGBC Wuye, Mr. Ogunsina Joshua, expressed gratitude to the organizers for selecting the school for the event and voiced optimism that the initiative would benefit the students. He called for support for the school’s digital technology and library projects to further enhance learning.
Solomon Amaku, representing the students, thanked the organizers for their efforts in commemorating the International Day of the Boy-Child and for inspiring boys to grow into responsible men in the future.
