Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing the service delivery of its law enforcement officers by organizing a stress management and emotional wellbeing workshop. The initiative aims to improve interactions with civil society and boost overall efficiency.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the workshop was held at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, in partnership with the Rashtriya Raksha University, India. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized the importance of mental and emotional well-being in achieving sustainable and efficient service delivery. He noted that unmanaged stress could impair judgment, decision-making, and interpersonal relationships, thereby affecting the overall effectiveness of officers.
Mohammed highlighted the increasing psychological and emotional demands on law enforcement officers due to their daily exposure to traumatic incidents, road traffic crashes, emergencies, and other critical situations. While technical and operational competencies have traditionally been the focus, the Corps Marshal stressed that mental and emotional well-being is equally crucial for sustainable effectiveness.
The FRSC, committed to developing a professional and resilient workforce, initiated the partnership with Rashtriya Raksha University to align its human capacity development initiatives with global best practices. The collaboration aims to equip officers with practical skills in stress management, emotional regulation, psychological resilience, self-management, and peer support, essential for enhancing professionalism and service delivery.
The workshop, which had been in the planning stages for over a year, provided practical tools for managing occupational stress and recognizing emotional challenges. Mohammed expressed gratitude to the Indian Government, Rashtriya Raksha University, and Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their commitment to the workshop’s success. He urged officers to apply the knowledge gained to improve professional conduct, foster healthier work environments, and enhance resilience.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the workshop included participation from various Nigerian law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Customs Service, and others. The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, highlighted the importance of such collaborations in sharing best practices and strengthening ties between the two countries. Singh, represented by Manoj Singh, Defence Advisor to the High Commission, emphasized the significance of building stronger people-to-people ties through these engagements.
The workshop featured lectures from Dr. Jasbir Thadhani of Rashtriya Raksha University, among other resource persons, further underscoring the collaborative effort to enhance the wellbeing and effectiveness of Nigerian law enforcement officers.
