Abuja: The Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Sheikh Mohammed Al-Issa, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to enhance peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims in Nigeria. Al-Issa, who also serves as the Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Scholars, offered his commendation during the inauguration of the Muslim World League Mosque in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Al-Issa’s visit to Nigeria is primarily focused on promoting peace and peaceful coexistence. He arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to participate in an international security conference in Abuja. The conference, scheduled for August 11-12, is organized by the Muslim World League, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), the Saudi Arabian Government, and other stakeholders.
Al-Issa expressed confidence that the conference would provide a significant platform for advancing dialogue and harmony both in Nigeria and globally. He noted that the event is expected to explore the relationship between peace, security, and socio-economic development, while enhancing dialogue and mutual understanding among people of various faiths. The gathering aims to bring together religious leaders and stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence, national unity, and security.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who accompanied Al-Issa during the mosque’s inauguration, highlighted the strong relationship between Nigeria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the international community. Idris emphasized that the conference arrives at a crucial moment as Nigeria works to strengthen its national security framework while pursuing reforms and investments to boost socio-economic development.
Idris reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to peaceful coexistence, religious harmony, and national unity, asserting that peace and security are vital to Nigeria’s prosperity and stability across Africa. He stated, “The President is determined to ensure peace and tranquillity not just in Nigeria, but around the world. This is a clear demonstration of the path that President Bola Tinubu is taking.”
As Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria has a significant role in promoting peace and stability across the continent, Idris noted. A peaceful and secure Nigeria could positively influence West Africa and Africa as a whole. The international conference is expected to provide a vital platform for religious leaders and stakeholders to exchange ideas and develop practical approaches to strengthening peaceful coexistence, security, and mutual understanding.
Idris commended the Muslim World League, JIBWIS, the Saudi Arabian Government, and other stakeholders for facilitating Sheikh Al-Issa’s visit and the establishment of the mosque. He also expressed gratitude to Sheikh Al-Issa for his ongoing commitment to fostering peace, dialogue, and understanding among faith communities.
