Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS7 Abuja Zonal Headquarters, has initiated a three-day special intervention patrol targeting major traffic offences in Niger State. This operation aims to enhance enforcement against speeding, overloading, route violations, use of mobile phones while driving, and unlicensed driving, according to a statement by the Niger Sector Commander of FRSC, Corps Commander Aishat Saadu.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the operation, dubbed ‘Operation Sauka Lafiya’ or ‘Operation Safe Journey,’ is being conducted across various formations in Niger. The initiative is complemented by public education campaigns at motor parks and strategic locations to educate motorists and passengers about safe road practices. The operation is scheduled from July 20 to July 22, aiming to bolster patrol activities on major highways and improve traffic management to reduce road traffic incidents across the state.
The exercise is designed to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and reinforce adherence to traffic regulations through sustained enforcement and public enlightenment. The deployment includes personnel, patrol vehicles, a tow truck, ambulances, and other operational equipment to key routes and traffic-prone areas, facilitating prompt rescue services, swift removal of obstructions, and enhanced response to road emergencies.
Commander Saadu has appealed to motorists, commercial transport operators, fleet managers, and other road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel during this operation. The intervention’s primary goal is to save lives, prevent avoidable accidents, and ensure road users reach their destinations safely. Motorists are urged to maintain roadworthy vehicles, avoid excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking, obey traffic signs, and exhibit patience on the roads.
Furthermore, the public is encouraged to report road crashes, broken-down vehicles, and other traffic emergencies using the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 or 09139600702 for immediate assistance.
