Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zone 5 Headquarters, has initiated a three-day special intervention patrol titled ‘Operation Total Compliance’ to bolster adherence to road traffic regulations in Edo, Delta, and Anambra states. The operation is designed to address rising concerns over road safety violations and aims to mitigate risks associated with traffic infractions.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, CRC Mercy Ebomwonyi, the Public Relations Officer for the zone, stated that the operation was launched in response to an increase in incidents such as overloading, the use of fake or non-compliant number plates, and the operation of commercial vehicles lacking functional Speed Limiting Devices (SLDs). Additional concerns include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and operating vehicles without valid driver’s licenses.
Ebomwonyi emphasized that these violations have significantly contributed to road traffic accidents and present substantial risks to public safety. The primary objectives of the operation are to identify, apprehend, and prosecute offenders, thereby enhancing road safety, improving security, and reducing traffic violations within Zone 5.
The operation will be conducted from Monday to Wednesday, utilizing coordinated patrols, mobile court prosecutions, public enlightenment campaigns, and media engagement across all operational corridors in the three states. Enforcement efforts will primarily target but are not limited to, overloading, speed limiting device violations, driver’s license violations, and issues with vehicle number plates.
Ebomwonyi also noted that the operation would be intelligence-driven, with simultaneous deployment across all sector commands. Patrol teams are expected to maintain high visibility, inspect vehicles, verify driver documentation, and conduct enforcement activities with professionalism. Support from other security agencies like the Nigerian Military, Nigeria Police Force, and others will be coordinated to ensure the operation’s success.
The public is urged to cooperate with the personnel to ensure a smooth execution of the operation, as any unruly behavior towards law enforcement officials performing their duties will not be tolerated.
