Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the production of a total of 1,047,148 driver’s licences across the nation in 2025, with a notable 427,675 remaining unclaimed by applicants.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the disclosure was made by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide, in an interview on Tuesday.
Ogungbemide highlighted that a driver’s licence serves multiple purposes beyond a driving document, acting as a security document accepted by various institutions. He expressed concern over the low turnout for collecting processed driver’s licences, noting that the collection process has been simplified for applicants. As of March 9, 427,675 licences are still awaiting collection.
“This implies that the number of licences actually collected by applicants nationwide in 2025 stands at 619,473, calculated by subtracting the unclaimed licences from the total produced,” Ogungbemide elaborated. The CPEO emphasized that these figures reflect the FRSC’s ongoing efforts to streamline the licensing process, facilitating efficient access to valid driver credentials, despite the challenge of unclaimed licences.
Ogungbemide urged applicants who have yet to collect their licences to visit the respective FRSC offices to obtain them, stressing the importance of timely collection for legal driving and road safety compliance. He reiterated the corps’ commitment to adopting technological reforms and enhancing service delivery in the issuance of driver’s licences across the country.
Moreover, Ogungbemide advised against driving without a valid driver’s licence, calling it a disservice and an irresponsible act. He warned that boasting about driving without a licence is an act of lawlessness, regardless of one’s driving experience, as the law considers it a danger to both the driver and other road users.
