Ankara: Trkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday expressed strong disapproval to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding the violation of Turkish airspace, calling it ‘unacceptable’.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Fidan made these assertions during a phone conversation with Araghchi. The diplomatic discussion focused on the recent incident where a ballistic missile, allegedly originating from Iran, entered Turkish airspace before being neutralized by NATO’s air and missile defense systems.
Fidan emphasized that Trkiye will persist in taking all necessary measures to prevent such violations in the future. He urged all involved parties to avoid actions that might jeopardize regional security or endanger civilian lives.
In response, Araghchi denied that the missile was launched from Iran and assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to address the incident.
The Turkish National Defence Ministry reported on Monday that the missile was intercepted by NATO defenses in the Eastern Mediterranean. Although debris from the missile landed in Gaziantep province, there were no casualties or injuries reported.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of ongoing U.S.-Israeli military actions targeting Iran since February 28, which have resulted in significant casualties, including the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
