Abuja: The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has unveiled its Tourism Transformation Mandate (TTM), aimed at transforming Nigeria’s tourism sector. It was introduced during a pre-event news conference in Abuja, preceding the upcoming 2026 Nigerian Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition (NTIFE).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Aliyu Badaki, President of FTAN, presented the TTM as a strategic roadmap designed to transition the industry from dialogue to active implementation. He emphasized that Nigeria requires coordinated execution rather than further discussions on tourism. Dr. Badaki announced that NTIFE 2026 would act as the implementation platform for the TTM through seven strategic pillars, which include policy alignment, investment promotion, destination development, and human capital development.
Established in 2013, NTIFE has evolved into Nigeria’s leading private sector platform for tourism investment, policy engagement, and business development. The initiative aims to position tourism as a key driver of economic diversification, investment, job creation, and cultural preservation. The event, slated for July 30 and 31, is expected to attract delegates from over 12 countries, as well as governors, ministers, and investors.
Addressing the controversial National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) Act, Badaki stated FTAN’s support for the Act but opposed any provisions that might undermine tourism businesses. He affirmed, “FTAN will not support an Act that will kill businesses or undermine members’ interests.”
Additionally, FTAN’s First Deputy President, Mrs. Susan Akporiaye, described NTIFE as the association’s flagship investment platform for attracting local and international investors into Nigeria’s tourism sector. She highlighted the private sector’s role in complementing government efforts by linking prospective investors with tourism investment opportunities, open to both small and large-scale participants.
The news conference was attended by various tourism stakeholders, including the General Secretary of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN), Julie Tongrit; FTAN FCT Vice Chairman, Aturu Samson; the Registrar of Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), Dr. Taiwo Famogbiyele; FTAN Executive Secretary, Precious Okonji; and FTAN Council member, Geraldine Itoe.
