Rivers: Dr Nname Ewor, factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has dissolved his faction into the Aaron Chukwemeka-led committee, supported by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Ewor, formerly loyal to Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, announced the dissolution during Wike’s ‘thank you’ visit to Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni (ONELGA) Local Government Area (LGA) on Friday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ewor declared that he was relinquishing the chairmanship and leadership of his faction to the Aaron Chukwemeka-led caretaker committee, emphasizing that the PDP is no longer divided in Rivers State. He expressed his disillusionment with the Fubara camp, stating that the governor could not be trusted. Ewor accused President Bola Tinubu of mediating twice in efforts to resolve the political crisis, accusing Fubara of failing to honor agreements.
Ewor’s remarks included criticism of Fubara’s reliability, questioning whether such a leader could be trusted and denying claims that Wike had intimidated his leadership. Meanwhile, Mr Chukwu Ogbogu, ONELGA Local Government Chairman, expressed gratitude to Wike for his development initiatives and personal support during his tenure as governor, highlighting that many locals had benefited from state and federal appointments.
Mrs Nkemjika Ezekwe, representing ONELGA II State Constituency, described Wike as an advocate for women’s empowerment, pointing out his efforts to give Rivers women a voice and financial independence while pledging continued support for the minister. Chief Felix Obuah, Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, praised Wike as a significant figure and acknowledged his efforts in fostering unity across Rivers State.
Wike, in his address, commended the ONELGA residents for their unity and resilience, declaring the LGA a ‘no-go area’ for Fubara supporters. He emphasized ongoing support for President Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Family initiative, stating, “We are not talking about party politics in Rivers but Renewed Hope Family for Tinubu, and we would do all we can to give him the needed support.”
