Borno: Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno inaugurated secondary schools in the rural communities of Fikiyel and Balbaya, encouraging students to engage in digital learning using tablets in classrooms. The governor opened three blocks of 20 classrooms and a four-block of 20 classrooms at the Government Secondary Schools in Fikiyel and Balbaya, located in Bayo Local Government Area.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, each student received a tablet to facilitate digital learning, supported by digital teachers who assist students in using digital apps and e-textbooks. The governor expressed his commitment to supplying more digital equipment and tablets to schools in rural communities and beyond. Furthermore, he directed the Ministry of Education to digitize all public secondary schools in the state, integrating digital tools, e-learning platforms, and smart classrooms.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the newly equipped schools feature modern classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, and an administrative complex. In addition, the governor laid the foundation stone for Bayo High Islamic College in Fikayel, designed to accommodate 3,000 students across 48 classrooms. This college aims to integrate out-of-school children, particularly Almajirai, into a formal and modern educational system.
The High Islamic College will offer a hybrid curriculum based on the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, combining core Islamic education with contemporary science, technology, and humanities. Gov. Zulum emphasized the importance of enrolling out-of-school children to learn Arabic and streamline non-formal education into the formal system through intensive literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, and vocational training.
