Abuja: The Tinubu Northern Women Support Group (TNWSG) on Friday inaugurated an empowerment programme targeting 100,000 petty traders across Northern Nigeria to drive economic inclusion and grassroots development. The TNWSG National Coordinator, Hajia Aisha Obalim, announced at a news conference in Abuja that the initiative was in alignment with the government’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ to translate policies into tangible local impact.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Obalim emphasized the programme’s focus on boosting women’s economic participation and commercial capacity, specifically targeting those engaged in petty trade across the three Northern geopolitical zones. The initiative also supports the re-election campaign of President Bola Tinubu, aiding in advancing reforms designed to grow the nation and empower women economically.
Obalim noted the necessity of empowering women in the Northern region across all 19 states and the FCT as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. The programme aims to provide financial grants to the selected 100,000 beneficiaries, which will strengthen their petty trade, enhance working capital, expand inventory, and increase market reach, ultimately improving their overall livelihoods.
She detailed that the funding structure ensures sustainability and growth, enabling hardworking women to transform petty trading into significant commercial ventures. The TNWSG programme will operate on a structured cluster model, grouping beneficiaries into clusters of 50 women. Each cluster is overseen by a designated Cluster Lead to monitor progress and ensure accountability.
Obalim highlighted that this leadership framework guarantees supervision, tracks commercial success, and ensures the funds have a tangible impact on traders’ livelihoods, focusing on collective growth and measurable outcomes.
