Keta: Mr Hopeson Adorye, the Director of Operations of the United Party, has pledged to work closely with Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, and the government to bring development projects to Atiavi Senior High School in the Keta Municipality. Mr. Adorye made this commitment during the sod-cutting ceremony for a dining hall and kitchen project at the school, stating that he would take the initiative as a personal project.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Adorye promised to lobby for a school bus for Atiavi SHS. He stated, “In the next consignment of school buses, I will fight and lobby to get one for the school to help in smooth running and improvements of administrative and other works.” He also revealed his plan to approach the Minister of Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, to request a bus for the school, expressing hope that by the end of the year, when President Mahama would approve the initiative, the school would benefit.
Mr. Adorye, a native of the area, was formally invited by Mr. James Gunu to the sod-cutting ceremony and expressed his commitment to supporting the school’s development. He emphasized the importance of improving teaching and learning conditions, stating, “The commitment will bring renewed hope to the school community who are looking forward to seeing tangible results, and we must step in to do what we can to help improve teaching and learning of our younger ones.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Gunu also promised to assist in bringing boarding facilities to the school, which would improve the living conditions of students and help accommodate more students. He mentioned that the construction of the dining hall with a kitchen was expected to alleviate dining and kitchen challenges faced by students and staff. The project is part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in educational institutions in the region.
Mr. Alex Kwesi Akotey, the headmaster of the school, along with teachers and students, welcomed Mr. Adorye’s pledge. They expressed confidence in the support to improve the school’s facilities and appealed to the government through the Regional Minister to continue addressing the challenges faced by schools and communities over the years. The people of Atiavi are hopeful that the development project will enhance the school’s ability to provide quality education.
