Post: Interior Minister Backs LGAN, Pledges Support for 2026 Golf Championship

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has pledged support for a seamless hosting of the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Abuja. Tunji-Ojo made the pledge during a courtesy visit by Lami Ahmed, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), and members of her delegation to his office in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister commended the growing participation of women in golf, describing them as strong and capable contributors to national development and leadership. He noted that women are defined by strength and resilience, expressing admiration for the confidence and leadership demonstrated by women golfers. Tunji-Ojo praised LGAN’s leadership for their dedication, vision, and resilience in managing the association, commending them for sustaining progress.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigeria for securing the hosting rights for the continental championship, highlighting it as a significant ach
ievement and a testament to LGAN’s hard work. He assured that visa facilitation for visiting delegations would be simplified, promoting tourism, trade, and a positive experience in Nigeria. The Nigerian Immigration Service has been directed to create a dedicated desk to coordinate arrivals and logistics with LGAN officials.

The minister also pledged adequate security through collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure safety during the event. He emphasized that security is a core mandate of his ministry, committing to deploy personnel and logistics for a successful championship. Tunji-Ojo expressed support for partnerships and inter-agency collaboration to strengthen the event’s execution and outcomes, aiming to meet global standards and deliver a lasting impact.

Earlier, LGAN President Ahmed announced that Nigeria would host the AACT from Nov. 2 to Nov. 14, 2026, in Abuja, attracting participants from over 30 African countries. She emphasized the championship as a platf
orm for continental unity, investment, and global visibility for Nigeria. Ahmed commended ongoing reforms in the Interior Ministry, which align with Nigeria’s vision as a modern and welcoming destination.

Ahmed highlighted that LGAN required support in visa facilitation, security, corporate partnerships, and inter-ministerial collaboration. The Local Organising Committee is deploying a N547 million operational framework to execute the large-scale project. She sought strategic partnerships to deliver a seamless, secure, and globally competitive championship reflecting Nigeria’s excellence and aligning with national priorities on tourism, youth engagement, women empowerment, and international image projection.

The meeting concluded with the decoration of the minister by LGAN as an AACT partner and the presentation of an award in recognition of his leadership and hard work in the Ministry.
