Ibadan: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disassociated itself from the purported admission of candidates into the Law Faculty of Lead City University, Ibadan. It announced that these admissions were not sanctioned by the board and are therefore invalid.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the board clarified that the admissions occurred despite a five-year suspension of the university’s Law programme. JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, stated that these admissions were not processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), rendering them null and void.
Benjamin emphasized that the institution is not authorized to admit candidates into the Law programme until the suspension is lifted. He reiterated that any admission not processed through CAPS cannot be recognized by the board.
He further highlighted the importance for candidates to follow JAMB’s advice against accepting admission offers outside of CAPS. Accepting such offers would make candidates complicit in illegitimate processes.
Benjamin urged candidates who received admissions outside CAPS to disregard them and to apply for the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for legitimate admission. He also warned that attempts by universities to transfer illegally admitted students through inter-university transfers would not be recognized by JAMB.
For an inter-university transfer to be valid, the candidate must have been initially admitted through CAPS. Benjamin reaffirmed that JAMB will continue to operate within the legal framework governing admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
